Government in Sparta and Athens
Sparta and Athens where the two main civilizations in ancient Greece. Sparta and Athens were very different from each other, they had a different government, economy, education, and a very different role of women and slaves. Sparta mostly believed that strength was the most important thing to stay in the game of life. Sparta conquered many of the lands that stood in their way. Their mainland was a backers wide of farmland so they grew crops and breed their cattle. Athens took a big difference in their society. Athens were heavy pacifists who didn’t depend on strength and conquering. They arranged senate meetings and held votes for their government.
Sparta Government
Sparta and Athens have very different government. Sparta used the government called Oligarchy. Oligarchy is a government that which all power is vested in a few people or in a dominant class or group. Athens use the government called Democracy which is a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. Spartan oligarchy is made up from council of ender 28 member. To be one of those 28 elder you had to be at least 60 year old and be a noble family. Some scholars believe that Assembly members shouted for the man they wanted most. Once they were elected, they served for life. The Council of Elders was the real power in Sparta. They were the ones who Assembly to vote and had the power to stop any laws passed by the Assembly that council members didn't like.
Athen Government
On the other hand the Athenian government was very different. First the Athens had more requests to be part of the government. You had to be born in Athens and be over the age of 18 to be a Athenian citizens. Women and slaves were not citizens. Those people that fit the requirements where call the Council of 500. Their met every day for 30 years of age. Council suggested new law every day and send them to the Assembly to be approved or disapproved this laws. The Assembly was a much lager group, and the assembly met on a hill every 10 days. If 6,000 citizens did not come to the assembly, it would not start. So the Athenians would gather all the slaves up, and give them ropes dipped in red paint. In order to shame the citizens that did not show up to the assembly, leaders would throw red stain on their clothes.
