Daily Life and Social Structure
Sparta and Athens were the two major city-states in ancient Greece. Sparta and Athens were very different from each other. They had a different government, economy, system of education, and women and slaves played different roles in each society. Spartans mostly believed that strength was the most important attribute to stay in the game of life. Spartans conquered many of the lands that stood in their way. Their mainland consisted of farmland, so they grew crops and bred their cattle. Athens was a very different society. Athenians were pacifists who didn’t depend on strength and conquering. They arranged senate meetings and held votes for their government. They also traded with other people.
